Where to See a Sunrise
For sunrise, any ocean access works, but a few are better than others.
- Head to Beach Access #2, also known as Eastern Regional Access. This is one of the best sunrise setups on the island. You’ll be at the east end, so the sun comes up over the open beach with nothing in the way.
- A popular option is the Bogue Inlet Pier. Walk out over the water and watch the sun come up with the ocean on three sides.
- Another excellent spot is the Western Ocean Regional Access. Leashed dogs are allowed, so your pup can enjoy the views as well.
Sunset Viewing Options
For sunset, you want to be on the sound side or out at the western tip.
- Located on the western tip of the island, The Point is where the sun drops straight down over the Bogue Inlet. You need a beach permit to drive out or enjoy a long walk from the end of Inlet Drive.
- Go for a short walk through Emerald Isle Woods Park. The loop trail includes a boardwalk out to two overlooks on the Bogue Sound.
- The Emerald Isle Boat Ramp and Wildlife Access is the easier option in town if you have kids in tow. Here, you’ll find a long pier with benches over the sound.
