What You Need to Know About the NC Seafood Festival

NC Seafood Festival

The first full weekend in October is a really big deal here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Why? It means it's time for the North Carolina Seafood Festival, of course. If you've ever visited or vacationed during the festival, you know that it draws people near and far to the Morehead City Waterfront in celebration of all things seafood. Do you have your beach vacation rental booked yet? Do it now! So, what do you really need to know about this big October festival event? Let us help you out. Here are the essential elements of the NC Seafood Festival. The Seafood Festival is celebrating its 31st year and is slated for this weekend and runs Friday through Sunday, October 6-8, 2017. The festival officially opens this Friday at noon on the waterfront. There's no admission charge, by the way. Will we see you there?

There is free parking and shuttle service at the NC Port.

This is pretty important to know since there are going to be a lot of people trying to find street parking in Morehead City. Save yourself some time and frustration by taking advantage of the free parking offered at the NC State Port then hop the shuttle right to the heart of the festival. The free parking and shuttle service are offered on Saturday and Sunday only. Need handicap accessible parking? Handicap parking spaces are available on the North side of Arendell Street between 7th and 8th Streets and on the South side of Arendell between 8th and 9th Streets. Additional handicapped accessible parking is available at the North Carolina Port on Saturday and Sunday, and Front Street Village from Friday-Sunday with a handicapped accessible shuttle to bring visitors to the festival. You'll also find other lots near the proximity of the festival offered by community groups that charge a daily fee. Visitors to the festival are urged not to park on side streets and alleys, as towing is strictly enforced for any illegal parking.
For more parking information and details plus other frequently asked questions, visit the NC Seafood Festival's FAQ page.

Yes, it's a seafood festival—but no, you don't have to love seafood.

Don't worry, it's okay if you are not a seafood lover. (We won't hold it against you.) In addition to the fresh and local seafood specialties, you will also find plenty of other things to enjoy at the NC Seafood Festival. The festival food extends beyond the reach of just seafood enthusiasts and has all of the other fair food you'd find at an event like this. All that matters is that you come hungry. You're sure to find something that pleases your palate. Promise!

Beyond the seafood, there is family fun and festival activities for everyone.

From the lovely views of the waterfront to the family-friendly music, rides, entertainment and activities, everyone of every age can find fun things to do and enjoy at the North Carolina Seafood Festival. Highlights of the festival include the Blessing of the Fleet, the Southern Outer Banks Boat Show, Flounder Fling, Cooking with the Chefs, the Pier Fishing Tournament, the Twin Bridges 8k Road Race, the Sailing Regatta, Port of Pours Tour, the Festival Fireworks and so much more. Whew! You can find the 2017 NC Seafood Festival Daily Event Schedule here to begin making your festival plans.

The NC Seafood Festival admission and live music are free.

No need to worry about paying for admission (or parking, see #1) or paying for concert tickets, unless you want to see the headliners who perform the weekend before the festival. The NC Seafood Festival has a jam-packed lineup, pun intended, on three stages throughout the weekend. The Agri Supply Main Stage is located between the 5th and 6th block on Evans Street, the Coastal Stage is located at Shepard and 9th Street, and SasSea’s Stage is for the young festival fans or the young-at-heart and is located on 8th Street. All three stages offer free music all weekend long, so stop by each of them. Follow the links to see each stage's 2017 music lineup with times, performers and special events throughout each of the festival days.

The North Carolina Seafood Festival makes a positively huge impact on the community.

Not only does the Seafood Festival celebrate the seafood industry and traditions that the Crystal Coast region of North Carolina was founded upon, but it also helps boost the local economy each and every year. This video from last year spotlights how the NC Seafood Festival positively impacts the local community in a really big way. It's worth the watch!
