Vacations are always more fun when you can take the whole family with you and that includes those furry members of the family that often get left behind. It can seem difficult to take a pet on vacation when you think about finding a place to stay that accepts pets, packing up their essentials, transporting them from the homestead to the vacation rental, and caring for them while you are trying to relax! But, it only seems difficult. We’ve rounded up the best tips, tricks, and vacation rentals here in the beautiful Emerald Isle that are all pet-friendly so that your vacation won’t be in any way hindered by having a pet along for the adventure!
1.A Place to Stay
Many people don’t even consider taking a vacation because it means they have to leave their pets at home, but what they don’t realize is that there are actually plenty of vacation rentals right on the water that accept these important members of the family! Sun-Surf Realty has an excellent range of rentals that are completely pet-friendly. You can check out our website to search all of great rentals for your pet-friendly vacation.
Traveling with your pet can be a lot of fun, but trying to remember everything that you need to pack along with everything that your pet will need to be happy on vacation can cause some stress, so we have a few essentials listed to make your life easier!
- Leash/ harness
- Collar (with tags with information such as your name, phone number, and where you are staying)
- Grooming supplies
- Any necessary medications
- Food (unless you plan on buying some at a local store when you get to your rental)
- Pet food bowls
- A container of water (or ice) for the trip so your furry friend can stay hydrated!
- A current photo of your pet (in case you happen to get separated)
- Any pet toys
- Bags (for picking up any messes!)
3.Traveling With Your Pet
Whether you are traveling by car, plane, boat, or whatever transportation gets you to the Crystal Coast, there are a few hacks that can help you when coming with your pet.
Make sure that your pet has a carrier that is sturdy and comfortable. Carriers should have multiple areas of ventilation and a sturdy hatch. There should also be enough room inside so that your pet can stand and lay down comfortably, but not so big that they get jostled around if you hit a bump or some turbulence. Lining the carrier with a blanket or newspaper can make your four-legged friend more comfy as well.
Unfortunately, many animals can get motion sickness while traveling. You can help prevent this by actually feeding your animal ice cubes instead of large amounts of water because it helps them to stay cool and hydrated without giving them too much water which can make them sick. Also, try to remember to feed them a smaller meal a few hours before you leave so it has time to settle in their stomachs.
If you are traveling by plane, make sure that you become familiar with any pet regulations that the airline or airport has before you leave so that you can be prepared for proper procedures when you arrive.
4.When You Arrive
When you arrive at your pet-friendly vacation rental, you have overcome the hardest part! That wasn’t so bad, was it? Now, you can spend time getting your animal familiar with the area, and stop to take a breath!
You’ll want to make sure that you are familiar with any pet regulations for any of the areas you plan on visiting while in Emerald Isle. Specifically, on the beaches, there are regulations such as the leash law, and the "pooper scooper” law. (This is where those bags you packed will come in handy.) Luckily, there are trash receptacles located frequently along the beach so that you can easily pick up after your pet and continue along the beach.
These are some simple tips and hacks that you can utilize while planning your next vacation to Emerald Isle with your pet. There is no need to leave a member of the family behind, albeit a furry one, when there are plenty of opportunities to have a very pet-friendly vacation while here in Emerald Isle!
