Newport Pig Picking Contest

April 7-8, 2017, Newport Town Park

It's that time of year again! Can you smell the barbecue wafting through the air? The 39th Annual Newport Pig Picking Contest is the largest whole-hog pig cooking event that combines food, fun and a springtime celebration like no other into two glorious days. This family-friendly event also has rides, live music, concessions, baked goods, funnel cake and souvenirs. Dig into a plate of barbecue while you're there and take some home with you. Emerald Isle Easter Egg Hunt, April 9, 2017 @12 noon, Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation: Join the EI Bunny at noon for festivities including sidewalk chalking, face painting, music and more.  The egg hunt begins at 1p.m. sharp!  Egg hunters should bring their own basket. The egg hunt is free and has three age categories: Ages 4 & Under - Ages 5 to 8 - Ages 9 to 12.  Prizes are awarded in each age group for finding the EI bunny’s prize eggs.  Joy the Clown joins the celebration, too. Everyone is invited! 


Annual Beaufort Easter Egg Hunt, April 15, 2017 @11a.m., Beaufort Historic Site: Every bunny ages seven and younger is invited to search for hidden eggs filled with candy and enjoy light refreshments in beautiful Beaufort-by-the-Sea. This is a free event; all you need to bring is your Easter basket and arrive early to position yourself for the start of the hunt! 


Annual Easter Festival to Benefit Autism, April 15, 2017 @12 noon, Garner Farms: Hop on over to Newport, NC for an Easter celebration for a cause. There's family-fun for everyone in a beautiful farm setting.  

Book Signing with Emerald Isle Author Tom Gill

April 14, 2017 @2-4p.m., Caribsea 

Emerald Isle resident Tom Gill, author of The Bridge and the just-released sequel Return to Emerald Isle, is on-hand for a book signing in Emerald Isle at Caribsea, located at 8921 Crew Drive. Celebrate Earth Day at the Aquarium during the Party for the Planet days. Special programs and activities focus on Conservation Connection and learn what you can do to help animals and their habitats. This special event is free with admission or membership.


Lookout Rotary Road Race

April 22, 2017, Train Depot in Morehead City

The 28th Annual Lookout Rotary Road race is the perfect family-friendly race for all ages and fitness levels and goes from the Port to the Fort. This is a USATF sanctioned event that focuses on health-oriented family fitness event organized by Lookout Rotary, Morehead City, NC. Race proceeds are given as donations to Rotary-sponsored charitable groups with emphasis on local county programs. It's a flat and fast certified neighborhood course with race times and options listed as follows: 6:30 am- Race Registration; 7:30 am- Half marathon start; 7:35 am- 5K Wheelchair start; 7:45 am- 5K Run & Fitness Walk start; 7:50 am- "Run for Healthy Living" 1 mile .


Publick Day at the Beaufort Historic Site

April 22, 2017 @9a.m. to 4p.m.

Publick Day is an old-fashioned flea market on the Beaufort Historic Site at 100 Block Turner Street with vendors selling antiques and collectibles, art, crafts, handmade jewelry, books, food and much more. Admission is free. Buy unique gifts for yourself and for your friends.

Reelin' for Research Fishing Tournament

April 28-29, 2017, Downtown Morehead City

Reelin’ for Research is a year-round fundraising effort benefiting the UNC Children’s Hospital and childhood cancer research. It culminates each year with a one-day offshore fishing tournament in Morehead City. Make plans to join the best party of the year and help "land a cure” for childhood cancer!  


Crystal Coast Sports & Recreation Expo

April 29, 2017, Crystal Coast Civic Center

Come learn more about the many wonderful opportunities that abound in Carteret County for those that are interested in sports for youth and adults, recreation and fitness for all ages, as well as health and wellness programs at the first annual Crystal Coast Sports and Recreation Expo. Here you can interact with a variety of vendors offering activities and education about products and services, as well as watch demonstrations of unique activities such as KnockerBall, Dance Fitness and laser tag. There are outdoor activities for kids, concession sales and much more.
