Can you believe that October 2017 is almost here? Crazy! Time flies when you're having fun on the beach. The good news is that beach season doesn't end when fall arrives here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. It just gets more beautiful. Cooler temps, lower humidity and stunning colors are some of the highlights of the season. Not to mention breathtaking coastal sunrises and sunsets, less crowds and more beach, and a host of family-friendly events and things to do. Speaking of events, there's a lot going on in Emerald Isle in October. Here are this month's highlights—you'll definitely want to write these down on your calendar. They're all close and convenient to your Emerald Isle vacation rental, so enjoy as many as you can during your time here.
Annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Fishing Tournament
Registration Through Oct. 12, 2017; Tournament runs Oct. 14-Nov. 25, 2017
Don't miss this fall fishing favorite event on Bogue Banks. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation and The Reel Outdoors are sponsoring the 15th Annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament. The tournament runs from 8a.m. Saturday, October 14 – November 25, 2017. Registration is free and the Reel Outdoors is providing prizes for the top 3 anglers! Registration is September 12 - October 12. The Reel Outdoors is the official weigh-in station. All trout must be caught by fishing on foot (surf, pier, inlet, sound) from Fort Macon to Emerald Isle; no boats. Dr. Bogus Free Surf Fishing Seminar

In conjunction with the Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament, Dr. Bogus is offering a free fishing seminar to help you fine tune your surf fishing technique and skills. Learn more about speckled trout surf fishing from one of the area’s most renowned experts at the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Department Community Center. Sound to Sea Paint Out & Sale
October 6-8, 2017
Calling all artists! The Sound to Sea Paint Out is an all medium Art Show and Sale in Emerald Isle sponsored by the Seaside Arts Council and Oil Painters of America. Artist find places to paint on Emerald Isle or the surrounding area on Saturday. Local home owners who want their view painted are given to the artist. Maps and name tags are given to artists Friday night at the Registration Social at Irene Baileys Studio & Gallery, 905 Ocean Drive, Emerald Isle. Artists can choose to have their canvases stamped, in order to compete for the People's Choice Cash Award from the Seaside Arts Council, presented Sunday at the Art Show and Sale. All paintings must be hangable for the competition. All artists (whether you paint Plein Air or not), are invited to exhibit and sell their work at the Art Show on Sunday, located at The Trading Post restaurant in Emerald Isle. Emerald Isle Fire House Open House

Emerald Isle is fortunate to be served by a dedicated group of firefighters providing quality fire and emergency medical services for residents, property owners, and visitors. Come out on Saturday from 11a.m. to 2p.m. at the Emerald Isle Fire Department located at 7516 Emerald Drive and meet the guys, learn more about fire safety, tour the station, check out the trucks and equipment, let the kids enjoy activities, and grab a hot dog! Friday Free Flicks: "Hocus Pocus"

You are invited to join in the family fun in the gymnasium at the Emerald Isle Community Center located at 203 Leisure Lane on the second Friday of each month for the Friday Free Flicks movie series. Admission is free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Popcorn and a drink are available for only a $1. Don't forget to bring a chair or a blanket with you. No outside food or beverages, please. This month's film is "Hocus Pocus" starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy. This supernatural comedy follows a trio of 17th century sibling witches who are accidentally resurrected into the 20th century by teenager Max. Movies are suitable for all ages unless otherwise noted. Enjoy the show!
PEP Program (Police Education the Public)

The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, is a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room located at 7500 Emerald Drive at 10am. These classes cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. The goal of this program is to increase public awareness, as well as provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. PEP Class topic for October is Teen Dating Violence with Instructor Delorme.

Join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation. No agendas or speeches—just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood. Coffee with a Cop sessions take place on the 4th Thursday of each month at different locations in town. This month's Coffee with a Cop event happens at 9a.m. at Rucker Johns. Emerald Isle Halloween Carnival

Fall fun for the whole family abounds at the Emerald Isle Halloween Carnival from 6-8p.m. at the EI Community Center at 203 Leisure Lane. Festivities include creating a glow in the dark mural, photo booth, cake walk, ID kits by the EI Police Dept., Trunk or Treat and more! Admission fee to carnival is two bags of candy per child.
