Wait. How are we even talking about August right now? Time flies when you're having fun! Beach life is in full swing here in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, and lucky for us the summer vibe continues well beyond Labor Day here. We're rounding up the best of August 2018 events, festivals and things to do in EI this month, so if you have an Emerald Isle beach vacation coming up you'll want to mark down these dates and join us at some of our local favorites. These family-friendly activities and events are all real close to your Emerald Isle vacation rental, so you don't have to go far. Will we see you this month on the beach and around town? August 2, 2018 
EmeraldFest: Hank Bowman & Friends

EmeraldFest is wrapping up for the 2018 season, but there's still time to enjoy a free outdoor concert on a Thursday evening beginning at 6:30p.m. at the Western Ocean Regional Access (WORA) in EI. Don't forget your chair or blanket. EmeraldFest on August 2 features bluegrass favorite Hank Bowman and Friends.

Youth Surfing Competition Series

Novice surfers ages 14 & under are invited to participate in a series of free competitions where fun, learning about competition strategies, and meeting other surfers are the focus. You may compete in any or all mini-contests, but you have to already know how to swim. Pre-registration is required and all events are free. Contact jasamellis@gmail.com.

EmeraldFest: Pure T Mommicked

Pure T Mommicked is a locally loved rock/alternative band that is full of fun and energy. Come out and see them on August 9 at the WORA in Emerald Isle for a free live music concert in beautiful coastal setting. Don't forget your chair or blanket, find your spot, and enjoy the show. EmeraldFest ends this month, so catch as many performances as you can!

Friday Free Flick

Have a fun family night out where the movie is free and the popcorn and drink are only $1 at the Emerald Isle Friday Free Flick. Movies are family oriented, open to the public, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring chairs or blankets, but no outside beverages or snacks. Call 252-354-6350 for movie title one week prior to showing. Friday Free Flicks happen at the Emerald Isle Community Center. We hope to see you there!

Do It For Drew 5K Color Run

Join in the 4th annual Do It For Drew 5K Color Run in Emerald Isle beginning at 7:30a.m. The run takes you on a scenic tour of the sound side of the island. Along the way you will be dusted with the bright colors that remind us all of how bright and happy Drew Hughes always was, and is in our hearts. EmeraldFest: Naked Knees

It's the last EmeraldFest concert of the 2018 season, so you better be there! Naked Knees is slated as "what a party sounds like" so you know it's going to be good. Who doesn't love a free live concert in the great outdoors, made even better because it's at the beach? Save the date and celebrate the sounds of summer with us. Bring your family, bring your friends—and don't forget your chair or a blanket. You might even want to bring your dancing shoes....

American Red Cross Blood Drive

It's that time again. Roll up your sleeves and get involved! The Carteret County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Community Center on 203 Leisure Lane from 11am-5pm on August 17.  Please give! Tell you family and friends all about it, too.

Police Educating the Public Program

"PEP" is an extremely informative series of one hour classes presented every 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10a.m. Topics cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by our community and across the country. August's PEP Topic: Firearms Laws & Safety.

Coffee with a Cop at K9s and Coffee

Join your neighbors and EI police officers for coffee and conversation! No agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in the neighborhood. For more information contact Community Resource Officer Sandra DeLorme at 252-354-2021.

Oh and one more thing. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation and The Reel Outdoors are sponsoring the 2018 Emerald Isle Flounder Fishing Tournament to kick off the surf-fishing and beach driving season that start on September 15, 2018. The tournament runs from 8a.m. Saturday, September 15 to 5p.m. September 29.  Registration is free and the Reel Outdoors provides prizes for the top 3 anglers.  Registration begins August 13 and continues through 5:00pm on September 13. More details to come. Stay tuned!
