The Beaufort Pirate Invasion Comes Ashore This Weekend


The 2014 Beaufort Pirate InvasionAhoy, me hearties! It's that time of year again. Landlubbers beware as beautiful Beaufort-by-the-Sea comes under siege by some nefarious rogues this weekend. The Beaufort Pirate Invasion comes ashore on Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9. Be prepared for a land and sea invasion of epic proportions. Beware, it's not for the faint of heart.

Join in the 17th century fun and festivities that include historical reenactments, sword fighting, cannon firing, blackpowder weapons displays, a mock trial and more. The plundering and pillaging begins at noon on Friday and 10a.m. on Saturday.

The lads and lasses can enjoy activities such as scallywag school, storytelling, and other piratical entertainment. Don't forget to dress in yer best buccaneer garb for the children's costume contest for those age 12 and under.

Pets can be part of the festivities, too. The Peg Leg Pirate Pooch Costume Contest offers a chance for your four-legged friends to be judged on the most authentic, funniest, ugliest, coolest and most dashing pooches. Prizes are awarded, too.

For the over 21 crowd, there is abundant grog to go around. Beaufort's favorite local establishments promise plenty of debauchery for all ye raucous rogues and wenches. The Dockhouse, Royal James, Clawson's, Backstreet Pub, Finz, Front Street Grill, Hannah's Haus, and Blackbeard's Grill & Grog are offering drink specials, pirates and plenty of entertainment to be enjoyed by all.

The Beaufort Pirate Invasion also offers other special events including the Buccaneer Review barbecue dinner and pirate review at Clawson's, the Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle O' Run pre-grog 1mile/5K jog, and the Parley on the Waterfront which is a celebration of peace and prosperity full of good cheer to end the event. Learn more about the infamous pirate Blackbeard by attending a lecture by research author and filmmaker Kevin Duffus on Thursday evening, August 7 at The History Place Morehead City.
