November 2018 Events You Need to Know About in Emerald Isle
November is almost here and it's shaping up to be a busy month in Emerald Isle and all along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. We want to keep you updated and informed of the what's happening locally in our towns and our beaches, so here's what you need to know! NC Seafood Festival Hurricane Florence Benefit Event:

Jaycee Park, Morehead City Waterfront
The big news locally is that even though the North Carolina Seafood Festival decided it was best to forgo their usual festivities, their hosting a Hurricane Benefit Event slated for the first weekend in November. The hurricane benefit event will be held on the Morehead City working waterfront with a focus on hurricane relief efforts plus plenty of food, music, and fun for all ages.
Chairperson of the 2018 Festival, Ed Stack said, “The board feels that we still want to produce an element of giving back to our community after experiencing such a major devastation. We look forward to bringing this event to the area and working towards planning of the North Carolina Seafood Festival in 2019”.
The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament will be helping to sponsor the event with the intentions of bringing relief aid to the community.
President of The Big Rock Marlin Tournament, Dale Britt says “I’ve been seeing Carteret Strong signs all around town and I must say that it is the best description I have seen about our community and the folks that are here. On behalf of our Board of Directors, our Executive Director Crystal Hesmer and her great team we are pleased to announce that the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is joining forces with the North Carolina Seafood Festival to help hold this important hurricane relief benefit on November 3rd”.
The organizations have chosen the Salvation Army as the recipient of designated funds raised from the event. The Salvation Army has a program within its framework that vets families in need of assistance to pay their utility bills.
During the press conference Major Dewey Alderson of the Salvation Army stated: “What is going to happen in another month when their utilities bill is due? You have a choice to make: do I feed my family for another month or do we pay the utility bill. That is what this money is going to do. We promise you that this money is going to be spent here on utility bills, rent, and whatever else we can do in Carteret County”.
The ‘Amped Up’ event will be held from 11a.m.–11p.m. on Saturday, November 3rd in Jaycee Park on the Morehead City Waterfront. The event will feature non-stop music, as well as restaurants and non-profit food vendors.

Story time in the classroom is followed by open play in the gymnasium for children aged birth to 5 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult, as supervision is not provided. Please bring any supplies needed such as diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. Call (252) 354-6350 for more details.
Friday Free Flicks

Emerald Isle Community Center
This month's Friday Free Flicks feature is Disney's The Incredibles. Movies are family oriented, free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Popcorn and drink are available for $1. Please bring chairs and or blankets; no outside beverages or snacks. Movie starts at 7p.m.
Veterans Day Event

Fort Macon State Park
Fort Macon State Park is doing a “Soldiers through the Ages” program for Veterans Day this year. It has been several years since they have done this, so if you are not familiar, they have luminaries set up on the fort and have soldiers in period uniforms come up on the fort while a historian talks about the war they were involved with, the uniform they wore, and the weapons they carried. Each soldier will shoot a blank round from their weapon to demonstrating how it functioned. At the end of the program a ceremonial salute will be fired in honor of all our past and current veterans. It's a great living history experience!
Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot

McNeill Park, Pine Knoll Shores
Pine Knoll Shores Parks and Recreation committee is excited to host its Annual Turkey Trot for the Carteret County community. This rain or shine Thanksgiving Day celebration is free and open to all and happens along the Bogue Sound waterfront in Pine Knoll Shores.The 3.1-mile walk/run begins at McNeill Park, located off of Oakleaf Drive on the Bogue Sound at 9a.m. when Pine Knoll Shores Mayor Ken Jones signals his bugle. Coffee, donuts and hot chocolate are provided at the end of the Turkey Trot to celebrate. Start your Thanksgiving Day off by burning a few calories with family, friends and neighbors.

It's that time of year again! Join us at 3p.m. for the annual EI Christmas Parade. Also, please join us after the parade for the official Christmas Tree Lighting at Merchant’s Park. Enjoy free refreshments, as well as a holiday caroling sing-a-long as Santa Claus visits with the children.
