May Events You Won't Want to Miss!

There are so many fun events this May on the Crystal Coast! From art, to fishing, to music, you are not going to want to miss a thing!
May 1st — Reelin’ for Research
If you love fishing, you definitely want to bring the family out to this fun event! Benefitting the N.C. Children’s Promise—a fundraising campaign for the UNC Children’s Hospital. Register online to be a part of a team competing for this awesome project! Learn more about registration and donations to the UNC Children’s Hospital on their website!
May 2nd — Crystal Coast Lighthouse Challenge
If you enjoyed biking post, you will definitely want to check this out! Beginning at 8 am, three different challenge levels for biking will be starting at the Emerald Isle Community Center. If you are up for the challenge, the longest bike ride will be 85 miles through Bogue Banks, Morehead City, Beaufort, East Carteret, and to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse! Shorter rides include the 41 mile ride to the Fort Macon Civil War Memorial and the 25 mile ride to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. May 2nd— Spring Craft Fair
With proceeds going directly to the Carteret County Historical Society, this event is a great way to become more familiar with local artists! Featuring local arts, crafts, pottery, jewelry, shell ornaments, and even alpaca products, this event is a fun place to find a birthday present or souvenir. May 2nd — Be Here en Plein Air Art Festival and Competition
This great event is open to artists of all skills and ages and to anyone who wants to simply enjoy the local art! Held throughout the Downtown Beaufort area, artists set up shop anywhere within the boundaries and create an original piece of art right before your eyes! Judging commences at 6:30 pm and a people’s choice award is also given. After the judging, art goes on sale as well, so this may be your chance to snag some great artwork! May 3rd — PAWS Pet Expo
For all you pet lovers, this is a really fun event! Hosted at the Carteret Community Civic Center, the PAWS Pet Expo has lots of fun contests for your pets, food, vendors, and more! May 8th and 9th — Beaufort Music Festival
Spring means music festivals and we definitely have it going on here on the Crystal Coast! The annual Beaufort Music Festival takes place Friday and Saturday in Downtown Beaufort. The 8th is the free kick-off and both events feature great music, kids events, food, and more! May 10th — Mother’s Day and Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise
What better way to say "I love you, mom” than with a relaxing cruise along the beautiful Crystal Coast? This is a great Mother’s Day gift that includes a memento from the trip, a delicious brunch, and warm sea breezes. We hope that all the mothers out there have a wonderful weekend! We love our moms! May 12th and 26th — 2015 Beach Fun Run Series
For those that are looking to have fun and stay healthy this vacation, why not participate in a fun run? This series has several events throughout the summer and times are recorded for prizes at the end of the summer. With three different length races, this is a terrific event for just one person, or the whole family! Races begin at the Circle in Atlantic Beach at 6:30pm. May 15th and 16th — "Southern Hospitality” Quilt Show
A less well-known craft, but one that will blow your mind is quilting! The talent here is real and the quilts are beautiful! Make sure you stop by for this event and check out all of the gorgeous quilts presented by the Crystal Coast Quilter’s Guild. May 16th — Wild Horse Day at the NC Aquarium Pine Knoll Shores
We love the NC Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores, especially when they do fantastic events like this! Bring the whole family for this day of horse-loving fun. Activities at this event include horse trivia, history on the wild horses of the Outer Banks, a scavenger hunt, and more! This is a super way to learn more about Crystal Coast history, and show the love for these amazing creatures of the Outer Banks. Find out more about this event on the NC Aquarium website.
May 16th — Summer Kickoff Party to Benefit Hope Mission
The Banks Grill in Morehead City will be giving out free BBQ sandwiches (Eastern NC style, of course!) when you donate to Hope Mission. Hope Mission is a non-profit Christian ministry group that helps people in Carteret County by providing food, fellowship, shelter, and more. This is a wonderful way to not only get some great food, but help out a great cause too!
May 16th — ARTrageous Art Show
For all the artsy vacationers, this is an excellent event for the whole family and allows you another great opportunity to get to know some local artists. Located on the Morehead City Waterfront and in conjunction with the Crystal Coast Boat Show, this event features artists from many genres including painting, pottery, wood carving, and more! May 22nd — Alive at Five Outdoor Concert
This is a free concert in Downtown Morehead City and takes place at Jaycee Park. Get the whole family out to enjoy a night of fun and music! Check out the Morehead City Downtown website for more information!
May 23rd — CCACC Spring Show and Sale
Held at the Beaufort Historic Site, this is a group of professional artists that are hand-selected to be a part of the Carteret County Arts Crafts Coalition. Working with various media, these artists have work from candles to hats to jewelry and more! Be sure to check out this event and get more information on their website.
May 23rd — Summer Concert Series Begins
It’s almost summer and we’re starting it off with some great tunes! Head on over to Jaycee Park in Morehead City every Saturday from 7-8 pm until Labor day! These concerts are free and open to everyone, so bring the whole family to enjoy the local sounds of our great Crystal Coast musicians. May 24th — Fireworks!
Memorial Day is more fun on the Crystal Coast, and to prove it, we are setting off fireworks! Head on over to the Circle in Atlantic Beach at 9pm to enjoy some beautiful fireworks off the waterfront. Nothing could be more beautiful, or more fun!
May 27th and 29th — Marlins Home Game
Kick off the Marlins baseball season with a home game! The smell of hot dogs and popcorn has never been more tempting and the summer season is best kicked off with a good old fashioned baseball game. May 29th — Military Appreciation Day
For those of you who have served our country, and to your families, we want to say thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice and service. In a small way, we would like to give back by inviting Military members and their families to join us for a fun day in Morehead City of fishing, games, food, and more! There will be lots for you and your families and it will be free! This is our small way of giving back for all that you have done. For more information you can go to this website.
May 30th — Youth Fishing Tournament
This is a fabulous event for the young fishing enthusiasts. Kids from ages 5-12 will get to participate in several fishing contests such as Biggest Fish, Most Unique Fish, etc. Bait will be provided (while supplies last), but you will need to bring your own rod. Pre-registration is already open, so make sure you don’t miss out! This event is free and will be held at the Bogue Inlet Pier. You can check out this website for more information.
May 30th — Hope for the Warriors 5 Mile Run
This is an interesting event because not only is it a great run, but it also raises awareness and funds for our military. Proceeds will go to help the Hope for the Warriors project which provides help for wounded and fallen military members and their families. This race will begin with each runner carrying 20 lbs. of sand in their bags, decreasing the amount of sand as you raise money. This 20 lbs. simulates the weight that our ground troops carry and helps us to better understand their conditions.
