Kick Off Your New Year in Emerald Isle with These Fun Activities!


Happy New Year! We hope that you are spending your New Year’s here in lovely Emerald Isle. There are some really great things coming up this month, so keep reading and don’t miss out on all the fun!



































Jan 8: Family Night at the Museum:


Visit the North Carolina History Center in New Bern for a fun look at how history has shaped this historic town. Check out the Tryon Palace Museum store, the Pepsi Family Center, and exhibits at the Regional History Museum. Make some crafts with the kids, and have fun as a family at this exciting event. Jan 9: Free Friday Flicks:


Enjoy a fun evening at the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Center. Movies are always family oriented and free for the public. Popcorn and drinks are only $1.00! Bring a comfy chair or blanket to sit on and enjoy this month’s movie "How to Train Your Dragon 2” (which is a favorite of mine, if I may add). Show time is at 7:00pm. Jan 10: Joe Crookston Concert:


Joe Crookston is an artist, writer, singer, guitarist, painter, and more! Joe will be performing is beautifully written songs full of energy and fun at the Clawson’s restaurant in Beaufort. Learn more about Joe Crookston and other great musicians performing locally at this website.


Jan 10: Crystal Coast Wedding Salon:


In Atlantic Beach, the wedding salon is always an exciting time for future brides and grooms. At this fun event, vendors at the Hilton by Doubletree Atlantic Beach Hotel help you plan for your dream beach wedding. Limousine tours are offered to show you the best venues around the Crystal Coast, and plenty of samples of local caterers and bakers are available. The After Party at the Ocean Club is a fun way to end the night dancing! All of these events are for one low ticket price and more info can be found on their website.


Jan 13, 19, & 26: Succulent Seafood:


This fun even hosted at the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium is a great way to learn more about local cuisine and especially seafood. Each Monday listed will feature a different local restaurant as the Aquarium staff explains more about the seafood species that you will be sampling. Chefs share recipes and tips and of course a sample of their delicious creations. Check out the website to learn more about pricing and registration. Don’t miss out on these delicacies!


Jan 16: Clam Chowder Cook-off:


The 4th Annual Chowder Cook-Off will take place at the Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center in Beaufort. Four contestants will cook their best clam chowder and participants will be able to sample each and vote on their favorite. Proceeds will go to support the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort. Jan 17, 24, & 31: Aquarium Behind the Scenes: Close Encounters:


For an hour and a half, you can be a part of the Aquarium team in this awesome behind the scenes tour of the different exhibits at the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium. Visiting labs and holding areas, feeding the animals, and an overhead look at the Living Shipwreck are all part of the fun. Jan 17: Crystal Coast Bridal Fair:


At the Crystal Coast Civic Center, the 23rd Crystal Coast Bridal Fair will take place once again. Get tips, tricks, ideas, and more information from different vendors about your dream wedding on the Crystal Coast. Fashion shows with the latest trends in wedding dresses, delicious samples from local caterers, and work from local florists and photographers will all be available at this event. There are even prizes and raffles! You and a guest can preregister for this fantastic event on their website.


Jan 19: Free Admittance and Food Drive at Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium:


As always on Martin Luther King Jr Day, the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium offers free admission. They will also be hosting a food drive for the Martha’s Mission Cupboard and will accept staples such as canned fruits and veggies, cereal, powdered milk, etc. This is a great way to give back to the community! Jan 24: Mac Daddy’s 5th Annual Winter Festival:


Fun for the whole family, this event at Mac Daddy’s Bowling Alley in Cape Carteret features arts and crafts, a cake walk, games, and vendors with home décor, jewelry, and more! Jan 30: WinterFeast:


"Oysters, Brews, and Comfort Foods” are on the menu at the annual WinterFeast in New Bern. Enjoy local seafood, grits, soup, and ENC barbeque at the North Carolina History Center from 5:30pm-8:30pm.
