Keepin' it Creative on the Crystal Coast
Though looking back at some of my old drawings can often make me cringe as I consider how much my stick figure of my mom looks like a monster, I really do love art. Art can help to express feelings and emotions, it can help us remember places we have been, it can help us capture a cherished moment, or it can simply be whimsical and fun. Art can touch so many people and you’ll find no shortage of wonderful art on the Crystal Coast. In fact, we have great Art events this month in addition to some great galleries for the whole family to check out!
25th Annual Art from the Heart
Art from the Heart is a wonderful annual event that brings
together artists from all over the Crystal Coast. Sponsored by the Arts Council
of Carteret County (ACCC), this two week show will display the art work from
artists from all walks of life. Elementary school children proudly display
their art with artists through middle, high school, college, and beyond. This
is a free event open to the whole family. Mingle with the artists themselves during
the reception honoring those artists who have won awards on February 20th.
This is a great way to become acquainted with wonderful, original art made by Crystal
Coast locals of all ages. For more information, check out the Arts Council website.
As a participant myself in this wonderful event, I can assure you that it is an event that you don’t want to miss! The Empty Bowls project which takes place annually, is not only a great way to appreciate the creative skills of local potters, but also a great way to give back to the community.
In this event, schools, local galleries, and individual artists donate their handmade bowls in order to raise awareness for hunger in our community. Here’s how it works: patrons will purchase a $20 ticket which will then allow them to choose any one of the hundreds of bowls that have been donated as well as receive two bowls of soup, a cookie, and bread donated by local restaurants. The money raised from the tickets will go to the Hope Mission food pantry and kitchen. Beautiful pottery, delicious soup, live music, and a silent auction are all wrapped into this amazing event which all goes to a great cause! This is definitely an event you won’t want to miss. Check out their website for more information, today!
And make sure you check out these galleries:
