How to Get Ready for the Holidays in Emerald Isle: November Events

We’re getting ready for the holidays in Emerald Isle! This month, keep your eyes open for holiday shows, parades, fairs, and more all in preparation for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays! So, how can you get ready for the holidays in Emerald Isle? Well, you can start by checking out all of these great events!

Arts and Crafts

One of the holiday shows that will be kicking off our month is the Mistletoe Magic Holiday Gift Show in Morehead City. With over 70 booths of local arts and crafts, you are sure to find something for everyone on your gift list! They will also be accepting canned food for a food drive, and be sure to stick around for a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause!

Later this month, the Carteret County Arts and Crafts Coalition will be hosting their Holiday Show starting on the 27th and running through December at the Morehead City Plaza. If you accidentally left someone off the list when you hit the Mistletoe Magic Holiday Gift Show, never fear! You can drop by Morehead City Plaza to pick up those last-minute gifts and choose from dozens of local vendors.

And, if you don’t want to go far from your Emerald Isle Rental, then you can head over to the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Center Gymnasium for the 4th Annual Emerald Isle Arts and Crafts Fair for more local, hand-crafted items—perfect for any Christmas present.

For the foodies out there, MacDaddy’s Bowling Alley in Cape Carteret will be hosting the Crystal Coast Chocolate Charity Pig Cook Off. This fun event will benefit the Carolina Chocolate Festival and will feature some amazing southern pulled pork BBQ from Fat Fellas along with a few other BBQ professionals!

The Beaufort Olive Oil Company is also putting on a couple of events in November and December with their special Luncheons. With three course meals featuring the olive oils and vinegar from the Beaufort Olive Oil Company, you will be able to chat with one of the chefs about how to incorporate these delicious products into your cooking.

The Beaufort Wine and Food is having their annual Oyster Roast this month as well with live music, a hayride, silent auction, and guest chef Greg Gettles (head chef at Piedmont Restaurant in Durham). This is a great way to enjoy local seafood and delicious steamed oysters.

And for an early thanksgiving, you can join in on the Community Thanksgiving Feast at the Beaufort Historic Site for a traditional turkey dinner provided by some of the best restaurants in the area!

Now, all this talk of food sounds great, but for those of us trying to not gain 10 lbs over the holidays (Me!) there are some fun ways to stay healthy while on vacation this month as well. Join in on one of the fastest growing new sports in America: pickleball! A mix of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, you can stay active while having fun at the open play available at the Morehead City Recreation Center

If you’re more of a runner, you can participate in the Strides Beaufort Lions for Diabetes Awareness Glow Run taking place in Beaufort. Don your glow sticks (available at the run) and have fun while also raising awareness for diabetes. If you’re not a runner, you can walk the course with your four-legged friend or by yourself.

You can also take the family and go on a hike at the Horse Sense and Survival Tours this month. Try to catch a glimpse of the Shackleford horses while also learning a little more about their history.

The holidays are also a great time to spend time with family and go to see a show. The Carteret Community Theatre will be putting on the classic Christmas play "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” this month.

A special film screening of the fascinating documentary "The Navigators—Pathfinders to the Pacific” will also be shown this month at the North Carolina Maritime Museum  as anthropologist and filmmaker Sam Low tells of his discoveries of the Pacific’s inhabitants.

For a special Thanksgiving/Christmas show, Gaylon Pope and Sweetwater Holiday Show will take place at Carteret Community College’s Joslyn Hall on the 21st.  Don’t miss out on the great music and make sure to grab your tickets because this show sells out fast!

For other great musical performances, you can check out Down East Folk Arts Society’s Concert at Clawson’s Restaurant in downtown Beaufort for a night of delicious food and live music!

Make sure that you head out with the family for the Morehead City Veteran’s Day Parade as we remember all those who have served our country.

Later this month here in Emerald Isle, we’ll be getting ready for Christmas with the annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade! Watch for Santa as he appears in his sled at the end of the parade and follow him down to the Christmas tree lighting at Merchant’s Park. It’s the perfect kick-off for the Christmas season!
