Fall is Back on the Crystal Coast: September Events You Won't Want to Miss!
Posted On Tuesday, September 01, 2015
Just because summer is drawing to a close, doesn’t mean that your beach vacation has to end! There are still so many fun, new events along the Crystal Coast.
We’re starting off the month with a murder, but don't worry, you can help solve it! Hosted by the fabulous Maritime Museum this month is the Murder Mystery Dinner. This is a great interactive event where you get to help solve the murder plot with museum staff all while enjoying a delicious catered meal. Make sure to nab your reservation before it’s too late! Also, don’t forget about Merry Time for Tots at the Maritime Museum where you can take the little ones to do arts and crafts (this month is all about Pirates!).
There are so many great outdoor activities this month from fishing to running to cycling and more! You can enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the rich history of Cape Lookout by touring the area by water. Get another look at the wild horses at Cape Lookout by attending the Horse Sense and Survival Tours. Pack a lunch and enjoy the warm sunshine, cool ocean breeze, and the quiet beauty of the wild horses as Dr. Sue Stuska gives great insight into the lives of the horses. For something a bit more active, you can participate in the Atlantic Beach Chum Run, or explore the Rachel Carson Reserve. You can also try your hand at flounder fishing at the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle for the 9th Annual Flounder Fishing Tournament. If you like cycling in the warm fall weather, you can enjoy cycling along the crystal coast and raising money for beach conservation at the Cycling for the Coast event.
You can also get hands-on instruction this month on stand-up paddle boarding at the Crystal Kai SUP Cup in Atlantic Beach. You can take the whole family and learn how to do stand-up paddle boarding and participate in all the other fun outdoor activities for this three-day event! The Maritime Museum is also hosting Kayak Fishing lessons this month so that you can take your older kids out on the water to have a fun afternoon saltwater fishing and enjoying the beautiful Crystal Coast air.
The changing of seasons and cooling weather is not only the perfect time to be outside fishing on the water or cycling along the coast however, it’s also a great time to channel your creative side! Carteret County Arts & Crafts Coalition Fall Show will be occurring at the Beaufort Historic Site this month as well as the "Tapping the Creative Spring” event which will allow you to be out in nature and create your own art in Salter Path. Plein Air Art on the Waterfront will be reappearing this month as well, so don’t miss out on the chance to see some great local art.
Other conduits of creativity this month include the Carteret Community Theater’s production of "Oliver,” Live on Thursdays Concert, Steep Canyon Rangers in Concert, Free Friday Flicks, and the American Music Festival Series. All are events you won’t want to miss out on this month!
You can also take some time to get to know the town of Newport this September with the opening of the Garner Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch as well as participating in the Newport Heritage Festival and Parade. The Garner Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch will include bouncy houses, hay rides, food, games, and of course, the corn maze and "pick-your-own-pumpkin” patch. As for the Newport Heritage Festival, you can come and enjoy live music, great food, Civil War Reenactments and a parade! Such a great little town with a rich history and fun events!
In Emerald Isle this month, you won’t want to miss out on 10th Annual Day4Kids event! Celebrating children (of all ages!) in this day of food, vendors, face painting, games, and more!
