Veterans Day Parade, Free Admission to the NC Aquarium & More

Monday, NVeterans Day on the Crystal Coastovember 11 is Veterans Day. On the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, there are a few ways to commemorate, as well as enjoy, this special day. Attend one or all!

Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Morehead City
Each year, the streets of downtown Morehead City bustle with excitement for the Veterans Day Parade. It's a big event that draws crowds to line Arendell Street in participation and support of our veterans. This year's parade occurs on November 11 at 11a.m. If you have any questions about the parade, please call 252.808.0440 for more information.

Free Admission & Food Drive at the NC Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores
Take advantage of the free admission offered on Veterans Day at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. It's open to everyone; no past or present military affiliation is required.

When you visit forVeterans Day at the NC Aquarium free that day, there are two ways that you can return the favor. Take advantage of the free admission, but also take advantage of the two opportunities available to visitors to support and give back to the community. Collections for Martha's Mission Cupboard in Morehead City are being taken this day, so bring non-perishable food donations with you when you come. Staples such as cereal, peanut butter, powdered milk, canned fruit and vegetables, dried beans, rice, and crackers are in demand.

This local food pantry helps families on the Crystal Coast during difficult times throughout the year. With the holiday season coming up, they are especially in need of donations during this time. Also, please be sure the items have not passed their expiration date. Collection boxes are available or you can just hand your donations to an aquarium staff member between 9a.m-5p.m.

The American Red Cross is on hand in Soundside Hall (near the Otter Exhibit) from 11a.m.-4p.m., so roll up your sleeve and give to the Blood Drive if you can. This precious commodity is in need of replenishing and any donations are greatly appreciated.

"Lest We Forget, Military Through the Ages" Program at Fort Macon State Park

Make the drive past Atlantic Beach to Fort Macon State Park to enjoy a special program there on Saturday, November 9 in honor of Veterans Day. The "Lest We Forget, Military Through the Ages" program runs from 6-7p.m. and includes reenactors dressed up in period uniforms each giving a talk followed by a three cannon salute night firing. Call the fort for more information, 252.726.3775.

If you're vacationing on the beautiful Crystal Coast this weekend, we hope to see you at our local Veterans Day events. We'd like to thank our veterans for all of their service and sacrifice they have provided for our country, not just on Veterans Day but every day.
