4 Crystal Coast Farmers Markets You Need To Know About This Fall

If you think farmer's markets are only for the spring and summer seasons, you are really missing out! The Crystal Coast has some amazing local markets that offer up the best of every season and you really need to know about them. Whether you live here year round or are only here for part of the year on vacation, you can bring local flavor right into your home or vacation home easily and affordably. What's even better than that is knowing that you're shopping and buying local, which in turn helps our area growers, producers and small businesses to succeed and thrive here on the Crystal Coast.
Ready to learn more about our Crystal Coast farmer's markets?
We're spotlighting four of our very favorite farmer's markets in hopes that you'll get out there and see for yourself what they have to offer. There is something so exquisite about farm-to-table produce that nothing else can really compare. Fresh, locally sourced produce is only part of what you'll find, though. Stop by these local markets and see why each is worth a visit and well-deserving of your time. Let's take a sneak peek into what they have to offer you and your family.

Garner Farms in Newport

Does Garner Farms sound familiar? That's because we just talked about it in recent blog post where we spotlighted the Garner Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, one of the best on the Crystal Coast!  Well, not only do they have some of the most excellent festive fall activities around, they also offer up some to-die-for farm-fresh produce accompanied by fabulous flowers and other seasonal favorites. This gorgeous Southern-style farm stand is not to be missed. It only takes one visit to see why. You'll be hooked!
Garner Farms is a full-scale produce farm, so the selection is always good. Be sure to check out their main crops during the summer months, too, where they specialize in strawberries, sweet corn and Bogue Sound watermelons. You can't go wrong with anything you buy here. Stop by and taste for yourself.
Garner Farms is located at 173 Sam Garner Road in Newport. Give them a call at 252-223-5283 to find out more about their hours and offerings or follow them on Facebook.

Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market

Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market

Another wonderful opportunity to buy fresh and buy local can be found in beautiful Beaufort-by-the-Sea. Take full advantage of the opportunity to get really fresh, wholesome, healthy food, all while meeting the people in the community who grow it. Have questions about what you're buying? Ask away! You’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, pasture-raised chicken, freshly baked goods and so much more.

Why settle for less than fresh? While produce that is purchased in the supermarket or a big-box store has been in transit or cold-stored for days or weeks, produce that you purchase at your local market has often been picked within 24 hours of your purchase. You just can't get any better than that, unless you grow it and pick it yourself. This is way less work!

The Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market is open every Saturday morning, 8:30a.m to 1:00p.m. seasonally from April through most of November. The final market of the season finishes out the year with an Old-Fashioned Holiday Market in December. We love the special events that are hosted here each month, too.
Check out the Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market and enjoy the atmosphere and character of this open air market. Admission is free and there's plenty of complimentary parking for your convenience. The market is just two blocks from Front Street on the Beaufort waterfront at the corner of Turner and Broad Streets at 300 Courthouse Square. Visit the Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market website to find out more or follow them on Facebook.

Salty Air Open Market

Salty Air Open Market in Cedar Point

Enjoy some salty air with your shopping! Located in Cedar Point, right across the bridge from Emerald Isle, the Salty Air Open Market offers up an outdoor space where artists, collectors and farmers all come together in one beautiful location to share their wares with you.
Listen to local musicians play while sipping a smoothie made from produce right from SF Farms' on-site general store. Or eat a po' boy made from local shrimp from White Oak River Seafood. Support a good cause like Ronald McDonald House or the Crystal Coast Hospice House at one of the monthly fundraising events held here. Visitors keep coming back for more of the fresh-off-the-farm foods, exciting food trucks, live music, and the warm, knowledgable staff they've come to know and love. As you can see, it's much more than a market. It's an experience.
The Salty Air Open Market is located at 307 Cedar Point Boulevard in Cedar Point. The market is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9a.m. to 5p.m. and is closed on Mondays. Visit the Salty Air Open Market website or visit them on Facebook to learn more.

The Friendly Market

The Friendly Market in Morehead City

Mindy Fitzpatrick and her husband, Matt, own The Friendly Market and are pretty much local legends here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. They opened the market in the spring of 2008, with Mindy's main job being the provider of homemade baked goods to be sold at the market. She started with simple well-known items such as cookies, breads and pies. Very soon after opening, she realized people were interested in a little something different, so she slowly started introducing some family recipes that were out of the ordinary and not your run of the mill baked goods. New additions early on included basil bread with fresh mozzarella, mango bread and an immediate hit, tomato pie. Almost overnight, there became a high demand for her baked goods and a great interest to see what she would bring to the market next.
Today, Mindy continues to create and search for new recipes that are not only tasteful and unique, but also include the freshest, local ingredients. Let's just say that she has quite a following! Once you get a taste of the Friendly Market Tomato Pie, Betty Ballou's Famous Cookies, Market "Crack" Pie, Blue Collard Dip or the Tomato Cheese, you start to crave them. It quickly becomes an addiction from there. That's the driving force behind the Friendly Market's amazing success!
Add in the on-site Produce Stand and Plant Nursery for the trifecta, and it's easy to see why the Friendly Market is a local favorite. Eat, Grow, Shop and Buy local is the motto here and that's exactly what you'll find. Explore what's new at the market by visiting the Friendly Market website or keep up with them on their Facebook page. The Friendly Market is located at 205 Friendly Road in Morehead City and they're open every day for your shopping pleasure.

What is your favorite farmer's market on the Crystal Coast? Thank you in advance for shopping and buying local!
