October Events That You Won't Want to Miss!

It’s October: the month of pumpkin pies, crunchy orange leaves, crisp fall weather, harvest festivals, and Halloween! We’re so excited for all the great fall activities this month, and we’ve rounded up some of the best events that you won’t want to miss!

First off this month is the North Carolina Seafood Festival! For the first weekend in October, people from all over the state will come down to the Crystal Coast to take part in the best seafood, local entertainment, surf and pier fishing competitions, great booths, fireworks, rides, and more! Both locals and visitors alike are sure to have a fun time at this awesome annual event. It's a staple event of the year, so you definitely won't want to miss this!

A few other festivals this month include the Mum Fest in New Bern that includes free admission to the Tryon Palace gardens, local arts and crafts, delicious food, rides, and entertainment. Back on Garner’s Farm, the corn maze is still in full swing, and they will be welcoming visitors to enjoy the Fall Festival at the Farm all day on the 10th. On the 24th, you can learn more about the Promised Land (Morehead City) in the early 1800’s as The Promise Land Festival celebrates the families that left their island homes along the Outer Banks to find refuge after a terrible storm drove them out. This will be a fun day of history with free admission in Morehead City! Another free festival on the 24th will be held in Atlantic Beach at "The Circle.” It’s the Carolina Kite Festival! Never has "Let’s go fly a kite!” been such a predominant song in everyone’s mind than on the day of the Kite Festival. Enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of brightly colored kites dotting the sky with special trick kite demonstrations, games for kids, and more!

Other great events this month include the Horse Sense and Survival Tours where you can learn more about the Shackleford horses while you experience them in the wild for yourself! The Boat Safety course presented by the North Carolina Maritime Museum, the Beaufort Historic Society Party, and the Fall in-the-Water Meet are also fun events to get your family involved in the community while on vacation this fall!

In the arts, the Plein Air is Everywhere Paint Out and Competition will be taking place this month and you can watch the painters at work as they create their masterpieces! Clyde Edgerton will also be visiting Morehead City to share his talents as a storyteller, author, musician, and singer. Also this month, the Carteret Community Theater will be presenting the Rocky Horror Show for a fun Halloween show! We also have "Maleficent" as the Free Friday Flick in Emerald Isle: a fun (free!) time for the family to enjoy.

The Beaufort Wine and Food’s Chef’s Competition is this month as local restaurants come together to compete for charity! Winners receive a grand prize of $1000 to donate to the charity of their choice. Just another way our local businesses are giving back to the community! Beaufort Food and Wine is also hosting the "Blind Pig Dinner” as participants (whose admission fee will be donated to the local Boys and Girl’s Club) enjoy celebrity chefs, local fisherman, and famers while enjoying a seven course dinner of the best local foods around! This is a huge event across the southern states and has been advertised by the Food Network, Our State and Southern Living magazines, as well as the Discovery and Travel Channels. Don’t miss out!

For the competitors out there, the Tuna Run 200 is this month along with the Twin Bridges 8K Road Race, the Crystal Kai SUP Cup, Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament in Emerald Isle, Swansboro Rotary King Mackerel Tournament, and the 24th Annual Mercury Southern Kingfish Association National Championship. All are fun, competitive local events that are sure to get you excited for fall!

And of course, for Halloween there are plenty of events for the whole family as well! The New Bern Ghost Walk along with the Beaufort Ghost Tours are fun events to learn more about local lore and history with a spooky twist. In Emerald Isle, you can enjoy the Halloween Festival with the whole family on the 30th. It includes a glow in the dark mural, face painting, games, photo booths, cake walks, trunk-or-treat, and more! At MacDaddy’s bowling alley in Cape Carteret, there will be some "spook-tacular” fun as well as local business come together to sponsor a fun night of games, treats, and vendors at the Games & Ghouls, Tricks & Tricks event kicks off. The North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores will also be holding their annual Trick-or-Treat Under the Sea event for the whole family on the 28th, 29th, and 30th.

And of course, there’s nothing like good, old fashioned trick-or-treating on Halloween night in the town of Emerald Isle!
