The Inaugural Emerald Isle Half Marathon & 5K

Ready, on your mark, get set, go! Grab your running shoes, start your practice runs, and get ready for the inaugural Emerald Isle Half Marathon and 5K event coming soon on Saturday, March 29. Spectators and race participants alike are able to enjoy the sights of our beautiful barrier island during the first year of this hopefully very successful event.

In support of a healthy, active lifestyle and the local community, it is only fitting (pun intended) that this year's race benefits the ongoing expansion of the Emerald Isle Bike Path. A 10-year project thus far, the Emerald Isle Bike Path expansion benefits both residents and vacationers by providing a safe place to walk and bike.

The Emerald Isle Half Marathon and 5K is only open to the first 800 half marathon participants, and the first 500 5K participants. If you're considering doing it, it's best not to delay. Registration ends on Tuesday, March 25 at midnight, and there is no race-day registration. The entry fee for the half marathon is $65 and the 5K is $35. You can register here.

There are plenty of awards and medals to be had, and an after-party is in the works. Course maps are available for both the half marathon race and 5K race.

Keep up with the latest news and updates by visiting the Emerald Isle Half Marathon and 5K Facebook page.

Take advantage of our beautiful Emerald Isle beach vacation rentals that are available to you if you're traveling in from out of town for the race. Gather up your fellow runners and all of your biggest fans and make it a weekend getaway on the Crystal Coast. You'll find a variety of beach accommodations and amenities to suit your every need and desire. There are always last minute Emerald Island vacation rental deals available, too.

Another reason to Bites and Blues on the Crystal Coast of NCcome to the Crystal Coast that weekend is for the Bites and Blues event the same evening (Saturday, March 29) as the Emerald Isle Half Marathon and 5K. Bites and Blues is the kickoff event for the semi-annual Toast to the Coast Restaurant Week that occurs on the Crystal Coast from March 30 to April 5 from 5-8p.m. It's a wonderful way to wrap up your Saturday.

Stroll the downtown Morehead City area, stop in to each of the participating restaurants, and enjoy the fabulous fare. Bluegrass and jazz ensembles are on-hand to entertain you throughout the evening.
