Beach Vacation Bucket List Part 1: Relaxation

Though none of us really want to think about our summers drawing to a close, August is the time when we all start turning our minds back to school, work, sports, extracurricular activities, busy schedules…and the list just keeps going! However, the summer isn’t over yet and you can’t end your vacation until you’ve completed your beach bucket list!

Now you may be thinking: "What bucket list?” Well, you may not have thought about it, but there are definitely some things that you must do in order for you to call your summer vacation a success, and we’ve got the two "must-dos” for your beach bucket list. So, before you start your back-to-school list, make sure you take the time to cross these off first!

Beach Vacation Bucket List: #1 Relaxation

One of the best parts of being at the beach is the chance to slow down, relax, rejuvenate, and clear the mind. Sometimes, it can get stressful even on vacation to have little ones in tow, to try and think of activities that everyone will enjoy, or even how to fit in all the fun activities that you’ve already planned!

This is why it is so important to make relaxation the first item on your beach vacation bucket list. Though full days of fun and high adventure are great, it’s important to give your body and mind time to relax! I recommend a solid day of relaxation both at the beginning and end of your vacation here in Emerald Isle.

Health Benefits

If you’re anything like me, it can be difficult for you to settle down sometimes when it seems like there are a million fun or important things to be doing than taking time to just sit. However, as soon as I do take a minute to settle down, I can instantly feel the benefits.

Studies show that taking time for relaxation can reduce your risk of heart attack, high blood pressure, and stroke. It also helps you to stay healthy because you are less likely to reach for your high-sugar comfort foods when you are calm and relaxed. Sitting out in the sun at the beach is also an excellent way to get the vitamin D that your body needs to build strong bones and aid in mental health. (Just don’t forget the sunscreen!)

A day relaxing at the beach can also help prevent depression and can help fight against bipolar as stress often triggers mood swings and can reduce the hormones such as dopamine that make you feel happy. Being relaxed is also an aid to decision making because you are in a state to be able to better weigh your options with a clear mind.

The beach is also literally good for your body as the sandy beach is a great exfoliant for your skin and the minerals and salt in the water can help the health of your skin! So having a relaxing day at the beach can do as much good as any trip to the spa and as an added bonus: it’s free!

Being able to relax is such a huge part of both physical and mental health, and I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere more relaxing than our beautiful sandy beaches. So, make relaxing the first item on your beach vacation bucket list so that you can be prepared for not only the rest of your vacation, but also everything that will follow!
